About the Author
Tim Green, for many years a star defensive end with the Atlanta Falcons, is a man of many talents. He's the author of such gripping books for adults as the New York Times bestselling The Dark Side of the Game and American Outrage. Tim graduated covaledictorian from Syracuse University and was a first-round draft pick. He later earned his law degree with honors, and he has also worked as an NFL commentator for FOX Sports and NPR.

I will be the first one to admit that I do not know anything about American football. My friends tried to educate me but I am football-dumb. I do know some players because I watch ESPN from time to time especially during tennis season. But I do know that this sport is a very big deal to its players and their fans.
Ty Lewis is the younger brother of NFL player Thane "Tiger" Lewis. As an aspiring football player himself, Ty makes the local 7-on-7 team as a wide receiver. He hopes his exceptional speed and natural talent will help his team win the tournament. Their opponent has Troy White, a very skilled quarterback that makes it seem that his team is unbeatable. Both kids want to win but football is the least of their problems. The mafia has some unfinished business and the boys somehow get in the middle of it.
Even though I know next to nothing about football, I enjoyed this book very much. I mean, the author himself played in the NFL for eight years. It took a while to get the hang of it; it started with a lot of football talk. And I think this is third in a series of books. It is fast paced and it flowed nicely even with short chapters. I like the relationship between Thane and Ty, even with the ten-year age gap between them. Thane seemed like a laid back, nice guy. And Ty, I loved his internal conversations about the stuff that's happening around him. It felt seemed so real. He seemed like a good kid. I didn't care for the other characters that much because there were so little about them. (Maybe in the previous books?)
There were other football game scenes in this book. I'm sure kids who play/know the sport will definitely appreciate those. The action was well-written and easy enough to understand. It was written in simple English. Several familiar names pop up here and there - Brett Favre, Beyonce, Mythbusters. I thought the fauna of the Everglades was scarier than the mafia plot, but that's just me. I also liked the twist in the end that it made me interested in reading Tim Green other books, Football Genius and Football Hero.
Rating: 4/5.
Recommendation: Children who like football will like this a lot. Older kids will love the mystery/thriller storyline.

it was so clenching you just want to read more and you just cant stop i love it so much and you need to read it. In the beginning hen thane got hurt it was questionable to know what happens

Deep Zone by Tim Green is about a kid named Ty and he wants his brother to get well and his family to be safe; his Uncle’s criminal activity does not help. This whole story is set in New York. Ty is at a football game with his brother, Thane, but his brother is playing for the Jets.They are playing the Baltimore Ravens in a playoff game. He saw in one moment that his brother is in the air, and then, he looks dead on the field with a horrible injury. Ty does not know what had happened to his brother. Ty finds out that his brother is in very bad shape, and could never play football again. At the same time, Thane is trying to keep Ty and his family safe from some gangs that his uncle got into. That does not work out too well when Thane gets hurt, because people get ahold of Ty. Some FBI agents get into the conversations and ask Ty a bunch of questions.
Tim took every action and expanded it into something totally else that the reader would not be expecting. He made the characters sound exactly like real life people. This book was very action filled with football to FBI agents and gangs. Books that just have the descriptions of football on the cover, don’t always turn out what they look to be. If people think this book is just about football, it's not, it goes on and on about different things. Ty, one of the main characters, is a young boy that has a bigger brother named, Thane. Ty is 12 years old and loves to play the game of football, like his brother. The author’s theme is that even if the reader gets hurt or injured, never give up.
This reviewer absolutely adored this book because of all of the football, action, and lots of plot twists. The reader would rate this book fantastically. This reader would recommend Deep Zone to anyone who loves football, action, or the FBI and investigations.
