Life Starts From the Moment of Conception- A Geneticist Doctor Confirms!

Life Is a Blessing, is the biography of French geneticist, doctor and father, Jerome Lejeune. The book was written by his daughter Clara Lejeune-Gaymard.
Lejeune was known for discovering that the presence of an extra twenty-first chromosome causes Down Syndrome(trisomy 21). He went on to identify other chromosomal disorders. His passion was the welfare of the mentally challenged children.
What stood out the most in this biography was the factual information quoted from his own writings on how life begins at the moment of conception. He takes you from 2 or 3 days after fertilization when there is only one living cell with a description of how that living cell keeps forming. "Fifteen days after the period is missed.....His miniscule heart has been beating for a week already; his arms, his legs, his head, and his brain are already roughly formed...." WOW, it's a must read! If anyone has any doubt they should read this detailed book from this renowned doctor who flew to the United States to testify in a court case of divorce and frozen embryos. The case was in Maryville, Tennessee and Judge Dale Young gave judgement in the case and wrote "for American common law that men begin at fertilization."
Dr. Lejeune's life was inspiring in many ways. I highly recommend it!

Worth a Read on a Couple of Levels

I caught wind of Dr. Lejeune from a radio broadcast of a presentation by his daughter, the author. There are some awkward translations from the French here and there, but nothing that will confound the reader. The organization seems a bit haphazard at times, but it provides an endearing and memorable portrait of a man whom the author obviously loved deeply. If it were only that it would be worth a read, but it also outlines a man who shows how faith can act through science and scientists. I've been passing it along the folks I know who work in the medical field.
