Cordaella's Journey Begins

Cordaella Buchanan lost her mother when she was an infant. She was raised by her father, a Falconer. It was only the two of them on Ben Nevis. She loved her father who taught her so much, but her life changed in an instant. Her father was murdered and she is taken in by her Uncle. Can she exist in this house where she is a pawn? Her Uncle's only focus is money and power and she is only a tool for him to use. This is what life is for a woman. Cordaella is a powerful character. I like her intelligence and her understanding of the machinations of the Earl. How difficult it is for her to live in a household where she is not loved. I could understand her heartache and I felt her hurt. Liz Lyles created a character that I cared about. I felt a connection and wanted to be with Cordy on her life's journey. This first installment drew me in and kept me reading. I want to know where life and fate will take this strong woman. The Falconer's Daughter showed how powerful role fate plays in life and takes away our control.

Beautifully written and compelling

The Falconer's Daughter Book One is compelling reading as it tells the story of Cordaella Buchanan.
Set in the Middle Ages,the book begins in a simple cottage on Ben Nevis in Scotland before moving to the lush countryside of Derbyshire. There are contrasts aplenty. Life on Ben Nevis is harsh yet while she lives there Cordy is loved and cherished. In her uncle's castle near Buxton there is material wealth but love is thin on the ground.
Liz Lyles writes beautifully and has created a plot which kept me reading late into the night. I am now heading straight fro Book Two to continue this wonderful story and I can't wait!

An intriguing tale of a young girl who loses everything she has known and is forced into a new life.

Cordaella Buchanan didn't know any other life than one of she had. Raised by her father, they didn't have much. Her father worked hard so they could survive until the day he was murdered.

After her father’s death, Cordaella is forced to leave her Highland home and taken to England to live with an uncle and his family. She didn't know any of them. She was taught many things including how to be a proper lady. She also learns she is the heir to a large fortune. Because of her inheritance, she is prepped for marriage where everyone has something to gain except for Cordaella

When Cordaella overhears conversation between her uncle and a peasant the truth comes out about her father’s death. How will Cordelia handle this? Revenge is the first thing that comes to mind.

This is a very interesting story. I was hooked right away. I'm ready to read the next book now.

May be it's just me........

Spoiler alert.

May be it's just me. But I don't like these kinds of story that used large portion of the plot to investigate what happened, to build up the suspense, but at the end did not give you an answer (what caused the transformation). The ending-less ending sort of made the investigation/suspense irrelevant.

Saundra K. Ciccarelli received her Ph.D. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee in developmental psychology. She is a member of Division 2 of the APA. Ciccarelli has been teaching introductory psychology for over 20 years. Her research interests include language and intelligence development in children and adolescents. She has authored numerous ancillary materials for introductory psychology texts, including the supplements to accompany the 6th through 9th editions of Coon, and the 4th through 6th editions of Feldman.

J. Noland White, Associate Professor in the Department of Pschological Science at Georgia College and State University; Ph.D. in Education from The University of Tennessee with a major in counseling psychology and specialty focus in neuropsychology.

Same info as the newer edition

This edition is almost identical to the newest edition. I purchased this book for my child attending college. I purchased this book instead of the new edition because the only difference in the chapters is the fact that two of them are in different locations in the book. Other than that, it's the same info! There isn't any reason to purchase the newer edition. If you are looking to save money on books for college, always check out the earlier editions. In most cases, it's the same info rearranged. A little research can save a lot of money.

Get the Facts on Loose-Leaf

Just so you know, bookstores and book buyers only give you a fraction of the original cost of a traditional hardcover or paper bound textbook. If you buy the loose leaf version, you have the advantage of more portability (take only the chapters you need to class), insertion of your own notes within the chapters, and a much cheaper price to begin. Yes, you cannot sell it back to the college bookstore and book buyers won't take it. But the price you pay for the loose leaf up front is pretty much the exact same amount of money you would have been "out" had you bought the much more expensive version and then sold it back. So, the question you really have to ask is do you want to "rent" a hardcover or softcover that you will sell, or do you want to pay the same price and be able to keep the text?

Now, having said all that, as the author of this text, I encourage you to go out and buy the hardcover because I get more money that way! Hee, hee. Buy several, give them to your friends. Makes great Christmas/Chanukah presents.

Great Textbook

I used this textbook for my general psych class. I liked this textbook and thought it was very easy to navigate. It flows nicely and has good visuals. I hope my school continues to use this author's work, as it is very well-organized and made it easy to study for tests.

Overall, I liked this textbook and think others would, too. From what I gather, they have come out with a new edition. I'm not sure how different the two are, but if this edition is any indication of what we can expect from the author, the new edition should be just as good.

Alev Bayındırlı is a professor in the Department of Food Engineering, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. She has authored or co-authored 30 journal articles. She received her BS degree in 1982 from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Middle East Technical University. Her MS (1985) and PhD (1989) degrees are from the Department of Food Engineering at Middle East Technical University. She is working on food chemistry and technology, especially enzymes in fruit and vegetable processing.

About the Author

LOUANNE JOHNSON is the author of nine books about education and the YA novel Muchacho. She is the author of The New York Times bestseller Dangerous Minds (originally My Posse Don't Do Homework). At present, she teaches high school full-time in rural New Mexico.

An excellent read for any teacher!

If you are a veteran teacher like I am, your first glance at this book may lead you to believe it's like any other new teacher "handbook" on the market. But I promise, if you give it a go, you will be pleased with the outcome. I began the book with little to no expectation of learning anything new, but lo and behold, I was thoroughly pleased with the new knowledge I gleaned from this read. As a high school English teacher, I loved the chapter entitled The Three Rs. I was introduced to some new approaches to reaching reluctant readers AND I was reminded of techniques I haven't used in a while. Ms. Johnson's passion and voice really comes through in her writing style. I felt like I was listening to a colleague and mentor. Pay attention to the section about lighting in the classroom. This is something I NEVER considered and her suggested use of transparencies caused me to research such techniques. I CANNOT wait to explore them with my students! I have to say, I didn't read the back of the book and never realize until the last chapter that this is the same Louanne Johnson who wrote, My Posse Don't do Homework, the book that inspired the movie Dangerous Minds. That last chapter included some wonderful insight into the book and movie. I truly recommend this book to mentors and mentees, new and veteran teachers, and certainly higher education students starting their student teaching!
